I matched. I tell everyone who followed that I was an exception because year and year I see others who tried like me and weren’t as lucky.

Getting a relatively high score on Step 3 can make you more competitive in the eyes of the program director and partially compensate for scoring low or failing one of the other Steps. Didn’t match into ortho, was thinking about doing either gonna a prelim year vs research year. Address the issue firsthand in your personal statement, and explain to the program directors why they should still take you as a resident.

The pay isn't necessarily all that great, but MD (or DO) is a doctorate and therefore it does carry academic weight, and it is possible discharge the loans in 10 years doing public service.
